Approximately twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland woke up experiencing outages on the start of the week after powerful weather events swept through the area, bringing strong winds reaching over 100 km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Damage

Residents observed giant hailstones reaching sizes of 7cm in particular locations. Meteorological experts announced that different parts across Queensland had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to handle the widespread outages.

Victoria's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, approximately one thousand energy customers in the southern state also encountered energy failures after the capital city saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams responded to over five hundred calls for help across the state, primarily for structural issues but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

  • Wyndham region - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on yesterday, more than 28k power users in Victoria were without power.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued storm activity expected across various areas of both regions.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the current weather patterns.

This warning comes after historical occurrences where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
